WORKING PAPERS:

Federal Reserve Banks:

Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland [Ohio]: "Counterfeiting as Private Money in Mechanism Design," by Ricardo Cavalcanti and Ed Nosal (WP-0716, November 2007, .pdf format, 28p.).

Abstract:

We describe counterfeiting activity as the issuance of private money, one which is diffi cult to monitor. Our approach, which amends the basic random-matching model of money in mechanism design, allows a tractable welfare analysis of currency competition. We show that it is not efficient to eliminate counterfeiting activity completely. We do not appeal to lottery devices, and we argue that this is consistent with imperfect monitoring.

DATA:

Luxembourg Income Study: "Introducing the Labour Market Mapping Tables." "Unlike many of the other variables available in the LIS data, the labour market variables are often constructed from numerous variables in the original surveys. In order to provide users with the most relevant information about the content of the labour market variables, LIS is providing tables that explain, in detail, how each labour market variable is constructed. These tables, which will be provided for each country in Wave V.2, show the routing that was used to assign values to the LIS variables. In addition, we provide the cell counts for each. The user can use the tables to clearly see the universe of each variable, as well as to understand the underlying questions that were used to define the content of the variables. The Labour Market Mapping tables will be found on the same web page as other country-specific documentation. LMMTs available at present:
